CDC and ADA Now Advise to Avoid Using Fluoride

The following is from an article written by Dr. Mercola, read the article in it’s entirety CLICK HERE

“A new study in the Journal of the American Dental Association finds once again that, contrary to what most people have been told, fluoride is actually bad for teeth.

Exposure to high levels of fluoride results in a condition known as fluorosis, in which tooth enamel becomes discolored. The condition can eventually lead to badly damaged teeth. The new study found that fluoride intake during a child’s first few years of life is significantly associated with fluorosis, and warned against using fluoridated water in infant formula.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is of a similar opinion. According to their website:

“Recent evidence suggests that mixing powdered or liquid infant formula concentrate with fluoridated water on a regular basis may increase the chance of a child developing … enamel fluorosis.”

Why it’s Dangerous to Swallow Fluoride

The United States is one of only eight countries in the entire developed world that fluoridates more than 50 percent of its water supply. It is added under the guise that it helps prevent and control tooth decay …

This is in spite of the fact that there never been any demonstrated difference in tooth decay between countries with fluoridated and non-fluoridated water, and no difference between states that have a high- or low percentage of their water fluoridated.

Even promoters of fluoridation concede that the major benefits are topical; fluoride works from the outside of the tooth, not from inside of your body, so why swallow it?

The fluoride added to your drinking water is in fact a chemical waste product! It is NOT something you should use as a supplement to your diet.

There are plenty of studies showing the dangers of fluoride to your health, such as:

As far as tooth decay is concerned, this is not caused by lack of fluoride.

Tooth decay is caused by acids in your mouth, typically created from sugar being metabolized by bacteria (Streptococcus mutans), and as you may already know, the number one source of calories in the United States is high fructose corn syrup.

The acid produced then attacks your enamel. Eventually the bacteria can get into the dentine, at which point tooth decay sets in. So there are far better options for decreasing tooth decay than using a topical or ingested poison, with a chief one being minimizing your intake of sugary foods and eating a healthful diet.

You typically don’t find dental caries in more primitive societies that do not consume vast amounts of sugar like in the United States.

Make Sure Your Children Are Not Exposed to Fluoride

One of dentist Bill Osmunson’s main concerns is water fluoridation for infants. The ADA and the CDC now both recommend that infants NOT receive fluoridated water for drinking, nor for making their formula, as fluoridated water contains 250 times more fluoride than mother’s milk.

“We shouldn’t fluoridate water and harm our most vulnerable,” Dr. Osmunson says.

It is my strong belief and recommendation to avoid giving your children fluoridated water.

Unfortunately, the only way to ensure your water is pure enough to drink is by installing a high-quality water filtration system in your house, such as a reverse osmosis filter that can filter out much of the fluoride and other dangerous water contaminants like disinfection byproducts (DBPs).

Remember that most bottled water also typically contains fluoride, even though it’s not stated on the label, and whatever you do, avoid using “nursery water,” which is fluoridated water sold specifically for infants.

Fluoride in your drinking water is one more reason why breastfeeding your infant is so essential. Nature has kept breast milk virtually fluoride-free for a reason.

If you are unable to breastfeed and are instead using formula, make sure the water you use is fluoride-free. Again, for now the best way you can provide pure, fluoride-free water to your family is by using a reverse osmosis filter, which you can install in your home.

Even better, if you are unable to breastfeed use this recipe to make homemade infant formula using raw milk and no water at all.

Keep in mind also that if you are a pregnant woman it is equally important for your water to be fluoride-free, as this chemical can harm your developing fetus.

The Ultimate Solution Is to Get Fluoride Out of Tap Water

Even though the ADA and the CDC have issued warnings that parents not use fluoridated tap water to make infant formula, neither of them has openly informed the public!

So there are millions of parents out there using tap water to make up formula, oblivious of the fact that the agencies that promote fluoridation in this country have issued a specific warning against using fluoridated water for this purpose.

Not only that, but by fluoridating the municipal water supply you doom many low-income families to fail to protect their young children from this dangerous drug, even if they have this information, as they simply don’t have the resources to install a reverse osmosis system.

This is why the only real solution is to stop the archaic practice of water fluoridation in the United States.

The Fluoride Action Network is an absolutely phenomenal resource for further education, and they’re doing much to pressure the US government for change. We will be working together to devise a complete game plan to tackle this issue head on. Once we reach the tipping point, which may be as little as 5 percent of the population, we will be able to reverse the policies of water fluoridation.

Our strategy will begin with addressing Canada, because 60 percent of Canada is already un-fluoridated. If we can get the rest of Canada to stop fluoridating their water, we believe the U.S. will be forced to follow.

Waist Size Correlates with Poor Health

Last year I had the privilege of seeing Dr. Bill Sears and Martha Sears speak at Children’s Hospital in Madera, Ca. In his talk on health an nutrition he told us (adults in the room) that when he was his most unhealthy he decided to change his habits and the first thing he did was work on his waistline, he said that a person’s health was all in the waist line.

I’m bringing this up as I spied this bit of news his week:

[The following excerpts are taken from an article in MEDICAL NEWS TODAY, to read the article in its ENTIRETY CLICK HERE]

“In a study of more than 4,500 children, researchers found those with higher waist circumferences had significantly higher pulse pressures, which is known to increase the risk of heart-related disorders, according to an abstract presented at the American Society of Nephrology’s Renal Week conference in Denver.”

“We found the children’s body mass didn’t correlate to higher pulse pressures, but their waist circumference did,” Dr. Chandramohan said. “This study suggests pediatricians add waist measurements to their routine screening of children to help determine the risk of heart-related disorders. Measuring waist circumference is a much simpler, more cost-effective and a more valid method of screening for the risk of heart-related disorders than the current practice of determining a child’s body mass.”

Dr. Sears said the best way to keep healthy is exercise, and to cut out the sticky foods, sugary foods like; candy, breads, cookies cakes etc. And to drink plenty of water completely avoiding sodas. There were many heavy sighs in the audience, it seems many people would like to lose wait without giving up the “bad” stuff. The trick he said with kids is to teach them about nutrition early, let them know that the food they eat has ramifications and affects how they feel. To learn more about this click HERE

Here is a blurb about his newest book on the topic; “

The LEAN Kids Program Prevents More Than Disease

The LEAN Kids Program is not only good prevention against disease, it’s good preventive medicine against the harmful habits that lead to disease.  Because this program helps children resume their healthful habits such as smoking, drugs, and other temptations that can harm their health.  Some kids on the LEAN Kids Program have told me, “How can anyone put that stuff in their body?” referring to smoking.  I’ve witnessed adults on the LEAN Program quit smoking because, for the first time in their lives, they now perceive this habit as completely foreign to their body.

Breast IS Best

“WHEN IT COMES to feeding infants, the mantra is “breast is best.” A diet of breast milk for babies is correlated with benefits including less diarrhea as well as lower incidence of diabetes or asthma when compared to formula-fed babies. But precisely how breast milk confers those advantages is unclear. Scientists know the basic ingredients of breast milk but don’t fully understand how exactly they work to provide optimum nutrition for infants and protect against disease.

MILK UC Davis graduate student Richard Seipert pipettes a milk sample as Lebrilla (far right) and coworkers observe.

A better understanding of the components of human breast milk—especially its lipids and oligosaccharides—and their role in ensuring infant health could lead to improved foods and better ways to treat gastrointestinal diseases, not just for infants but perhaps also for adults. “The one thing that has evolved with humans, to nourish humans, is breast milk,” says J. Bruce German, a food science professor at theUniversity of California, Davis.

“It is the ideal evolutionary model for what nourishment should be.”

Human breast milk is made up of several solid components. The most abundant of those is lactose, a disaccharide that provides energy for the infant. After lactose comes lipids, which are thought to primarily deliver nutrient fat.”

The very idea that scientists don’t fully understand exactly how the basic ingredients of breast milk works to provide optimum nutrition for infants and protect against disease, makes one wonder how formula can be the equivalent or just as good as breast milk if scientists don’t know how it works.

“Much still remains to be understood about how many of milk’s natural components are synthesized and delivered, how synthesis is controlled, and the effects of the mother’s diet on the final product.

“It is a remarkable fluid,” German emphasizes. “It’s extremely embarrassing how little we still know about it.”

Dr. Kratzer on Progressive Parenting

Did you know that a recent poll of parents conducted by Parenting magazine indicated that 42% share sleep with their infant at least part of the time?

Advances in research have demonstrated that the proximity of the infant to the parents during sleep is a protective factor against both SIDS and unexplained infant death, as well as valuable for bonding and sleep-time parenting.

Dr. Kratzer speaks out on co sleeping and bed sharing. There is much controversy surrounding sharing a bed with your baby. Bottlefeeding

Breast is best, it’s the message new parents are told. What happens however when birthday doesn’t go the way we hoped, thins get n the way, mom and baby are separated. Sometimes babies have natural problems that can get in the way for intstance tounge tie (bout four out of every 1,000 babies born are affected with a condition called ankyloglossia or tongue-tie. Tongue-tie is when the small piece of skin under the tongue is tight and holds the tongue fastened to the bottom of the baby’s mouth. The tongue is restricted from upward motion. The small piece of skin, called the lingual frenulum, may in some cases reach all the way to the tip of the baby’s tongue. The condition tends to run in families. It may persist into adulthood, causing additional problems.) There are other things that can intervene. Consider as well the plight of the adoptive mom, even though it is possible to lactate and nurse an adopted baby not all women can or are willing to do so. Which brings us to what is possible and best for baby. One of the principles of Attachment Parenting is Feeding with Love and Respect.

Bottle Nursing

  • Feeding is one of the primary ways a mother can initiate a secure attachment relationship with her baby.
  • Familiarize yourself with breastfeeding behaviors, and model them when bottle feeding:
    • Hold the baby when bottle feeding, positioning the bottle alongside the breast
    • Maintain eye contact, talk softly and lovingly
    • Switch positions from one side to another
    • Feed on cue and avoid schedules
    • Consider reserving feeding for the mother only
    • Pacifiers satisfy a baby’s sucking need. Hold the baby or child in the feeding position when he uses the pacifier
    • Associate the bottle and pacifier with being held and having undivided attention, so that it doesn’t become a transitional object
    • Wean from the bottle as one would wean from the breast

Feeding a child involves more than providing nutrients; it is an act of love. Whether providing for the very intense hunger needs of a newborn, or serving meals at the family dinner table, parents can use feeding time as an opportunity to strengthen their bonds with their children.

The newborn’s rooting, sucking, and crying reflexes evolved to ensure the close proximity of a mother or other caregiver that the baby can depend on to meet her intense needs. The more parents learn to identify and meet their baby’s needs, the more securely attached the parent-child bond becomes. Although older children are better able to feed themselves and to communicate their needs, parents should continue to respect the child’s hunger cues, offer healthy foods, model healthy eating habits, and make mealtimes a time for love and connection.
